Virginia TV journalists' murderer kills himself

A man who shot two journalists on live TV in the US state of Virginia has died after shooting himself, police say.
Vester Lee Flanagan, 41, an ex-employee of WDBJ7 TV known professionally as Bryce Williams, was in a car that was surrounded by police following a chase.

WDBJ7 TV reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward were killed some seven hours earlier during an interview in the town of Moneta.
The gunman later uploaded a video of himself opening fire at close range.
The White House has urged Congress to rapidly pass gun control laws in the wake of this latest shooting in the US.

Virginia State Police said the suspect's vehicle had been spotted on the Interstate 66 highway following the shooting, and crashed off the road after being pursued by officers.
"Troopers approached the vehicle and found the male driver suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound," the force said in a statement.

He later died in hospital, a police spokesman said.
The Twitter account of Flanagan suggested he had held a grudge against Mr Ward, 27, and Ms Parker, 24.
Police said his utterances on social media the previous evening suggested the attack was pre-planned.

Shots and screams

The attack on the journalists took place at a large shopping centre, Bridgewater Plaza, near Smith Mountain Lake.

Ms Parker was starting a breakfast TV interview about tourism at the shopping centre when suddenly shots rang out, the camera spun and dropped to the ground, and her screams could be heard.
The footage then captured what appeared to be a fleeting image of the gunman, who was wearing black trousers and a blue top - and holding a handgun.
The woman who was being interviewed, Vicki Gardner of the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce, survived the attack and is in a stable condition in hospital following surgery.
Bryce Williams's Twitter and Facebook feeds, which have now been suspended, subsequently showed video shot by the gunman.
They showed him raising a handgun, training it on the trio, and opening fire 14 times. The TV station's own footage of the attack recorded only eight of the shots.

'Our hearts are broken'

Staff at the TV station, which continued broadcasting after the live report, expressed shock and sadness at the loss of their colleagues.
"Alison and Adam died this morning at 06:45 shortly after the shots rang out," the station's president and general manager, Jeffrey Marks, announced on air.
"I cannot tell you how much they were loved by the WDBJ7 team... our hearts are broken."
He described the suspected killer as "an unhappy man" who was "difficult to work with" and had to be escorted from the TV station by police officers when he was finally dismissed.
A complaint filed against the station with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission by the suspect had been dismissed, Mr Marks added.
WDBJ7 anchor Chris Hurst revealed that he and Ms Parker had been in a relationship and had planned to marry.

"We were together almost nine months. It was the best nine months of our lives. We wanted to get married. We just celebrated her 24th birthday.
"She was the most radiant woman I ever met. And for some reason she loved me back. She loved her family, her parents and her brother."
He added that Ms Parker had worked on a regular basis with Mr Ward, and that he was heartbroken for his fiancee, a producer at the station.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest, speaking to reporters, urged the passing of new gun control laws.
"There are some common sense things that only Congress can do that we know would have a tangible impact on reducing gun violence in this country," he said.

MTN Android One Data Plan – 1GB Internet for 500 Naira

MTN as a key Google Partner in the launch of Android One in Nigeria is introducing a special data plan for Android One phones offering 1GB data for just 500 Naira ($2.50) starting with the first, the Infinix Hot 2.
To activate the MTN Android One data plan, text A1 to 131.

1GB data for 500 Naira

Android One phones in addition to offering high quality designs also promise timely Android updates and security patches.
The new MTN 1GB data plan is targeted at the Infinix Hot 2 and will probably be available to other Android One phones when they launch.
The new 1GB data plan is the most cost effective MTN data plan and one of the best priced internet plan in Nigeria. When you consider that MTN is currently offering 260MB for 1,000 Naira ($5), you can understand why this is a big deal.
For comparison, Etisalat currently offers a 1GB data plan for 1,000 Naira, and Glo, Etisalat, and Airtel all have 2GB data plans for 2,000 Naira ($10), which makes the MTN Android One data plan very pocket friendly.
The MTN Android One data plan offers 1GB for ₦500 for a period of 12 months, which suggests that after 12 months you will have to revert to normal data plans.
For now, I am not sure whether the 12 months starts from the day of purchase or the day of first data activation.
Another great thing about the MTN Android One data plan is that Android updates will be downloaded for free. Which means you will not use-up your precious data for downloading future Android updates as MTN will offer it for free.
To activate the MTN Android One data plan, text A1 to 131.
To enjoy the new 1GB for 500 Naira plan, you have to buy the new Infinix Hot 2. You can checkout the gorgeous Gold model here with 2GB RAM.

Mourinho in line to be sacked

CHELSEA manager Jose Mourinho has seen his odds of becoming the next Premier League manager to be sacked slashed following his team’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.
File: Jose Mourinho
File: Jose Mourinho
Odds released by Betfair Sportsbook on Monday show the Portuguese tactician is now 7/1 second favourite – previously 25/1 – to leave his post behind Sunderland coach Dick Advocaat.
Mourinho had to also deal with heavy criticism in the build-up to the clash on Sunday for demoting first-team doctor Eva Carneiro after she had attended to Eden Hazard in the dying minutes of the draw against Garry Monk’s side last Saturday.
Despite the Portuguese manager only signing a new four-year dealearlier this month, odds from Betfair suggest Mourinho could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge if Chelsea do not get their title defence back on track in the coming weeks.
Football Trader for Betfair, Michael Bowers, said: “Jose is struggling to get off on the right foot this season, after a poor game against Swansea and an even poorer game against the new title favourites
Manchester City, he has gone from 25/1 to 7/1 second favourite as the next manager to leave the market after heavy backing.
“The club will remain loyal to Mourinho for the time being, but if the blues don’t start picking up some points after four or five games, even The Special One could face the chop.”

MICROSOFT IS ALLOWING ITSELF TO DETECT PIRATED GAMES ON YOUR WINDOWS 10 PC

Despite being generally well-received, Windows 10 has been confronted with some bitter criticism concerning a series of alleged privacy obstructions. The latest of these stems from Microsoft’s End User License Agreement, or EULA, with WinBeta reporting that Microsoft has reserved the right to check your system for “playing counterfeit games, or using unauthorized hardware peripheral devices.”

For an operating system that runs an array of utilities which, mind you, can also be pirated, it’s bizarre to think that Microsoft would only be targeting games in its analyses. One might wonder why the company would not also check for ubiquitously pirated productivity suites such as Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office.
Of course, it may (also) be a case of Microsoft cracking down on the modification of its Xbox game consoles, a popular trend seen in the days of the original Xbox and its successor, the Xbox 360.
To accomplish this, gamers download software to their PCs, deploying it to their consoles via an external media device. Microsoft thus may be taking these steps in an attempt to prevent similar instances with the Xbox One as a means of suppressing hacking tool possession.
This would make sense since online communities have been trying to exploit the console since its launch in 2013. However, the language used in the agreement is reportedly too vague to discern Microsoft’s likely intent, and we can be sure the firm’s top-notch lawyers chose that ambiguous language knowingly.
Also ambiguous is whether Microsoft intends to share with law enforcement the information they obtain concerning users downloading “counterfeit games,” or if they simply plan to disable the stolen software.
Likewise, now that Windows 10 is used more liberally across platforms including PC, mobile, Xbox, HoloLens, and Surface Hub, EULAs are assembled more broadly. They must now include written safeguards against stolen phones, Xbox mods, enterprise security, and required updates.
The pervasiveness of Windows 10 is bringing with it not only technical challenges, but also legal challenges in producing a single, intelligible agreement.
Returning to the basics with Windows 10, Microsoft has pleased its customers, new and old. But with that out of the way, it’s now time to transparently acknowledge our concerns. Enough silence, Microsoft, what are you doing with our data?
